For the new wave of American progress.

When a corporation called S&P (Standard and Poor’s) ‘scares’
legislators into legislative debt-cutting submission – you have to
know the American people have been had. The S&P downgrade is
political theater and should not be taken seriously. Wall Street will
profit enormously by trading both the long and short side of the
market's swell of volatility. Main Street should profit too - via the
establishment of a
Public Trust. The S&P fiasco creates a double
hostage situation, where Republicans and fake Democrats can
collude to cut everything in sight, except for sacred cash cows like
defense and loopholes for the unconscionable practices of the
transnational corporate class.

Hop in the cab – or brace for the Austerity SuckerPunch.

Americans: we cannot waste our precious resources on the
misguided election or reelection of representatives, senators and
presidents that would offer the American people and their way of life
for slaughter on the fiscal altar of cheap and crooked austerity.

People ask me all the time – isn’t the reelection of President Obama
the most important thing for 2012? I say to you – it is the least
important thing for Democrats in 2012. The President has already
proven he will not fight for the middle and lower classes. Therefore,
he should be primaried and defeated by a truly democratic advocate
for the majority of Americans. Someone with minimal fundraising
infrastructure and national name recognition could carry out such a
primary challenge. Bernie Sanders (I-VT) could do it. So could
Dennis Kucinich (OH-10). And Alan Grayson (D-FL) could as well.
Perhaps they don’t have the stomach for it. Why the reluctance to
step up? I don’t know. When Ted Kennedy primaried Jimmy Carter
in 1980, Kennedy said he wanted "to put a real Democrat in the
White House." Americans are still waiting for that day.

But the political reality is this: if we obsess on this presidency in
this cycle – unless we have a truly democratic contender, we will
gain nothing but more of the same.

However, if we focus our efforts on representative and senatorial
seats we can ensure that legislation worth having gets written into
law. It’s that simple. Further, we can block bad bills and write better
bills and pass them over and above the executive branch,
regardless of who occupies the White House. Checks and balances.
The executive branch is only one branch – never forget it – nor let
the media lull you into forgetting the power of checks and balances.

It matters little who is in the White House, if we have a strongly
conscientious and Democratic Congress. There is no greater
example of congressional will than that of today’s Republicans
stepping all over the executive branch this year, getting everything
they want. You have to keep your eye on the ball. At this point in the
game for Americans – the casino quest for the office of the
presidency is better obsessed over by conservatives. They already
have it in the bag.

Democrats have to step out ahead of conservatives – and retake the
House and strengthen the Senate against what will in effect, be a
conservative White House, regardless of whether it’s occupied by
Obama, Bachmann, Romney or someone else. The only exception
being of course, should Sanders, Kucinich or Grayson step into the
mix – which they seem totally unwilling to do.

Put a progressive Democrat in Congress.
